How can you create art collectively without meeting in person? What does meeting in person even mean in the digital age? What kind of information can fill up a letter and what if it never arrives?
QWAS: Migrating Dialogue is a transcultural collaboration between Zurich University of Arts (ZHdK) in Zurich, Switzerland and Eurasian Cultural Alliance (ECA) in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
During an annual artistic exchange, nine students from Zurich (ZHdK) and eleven young artists from Almaty (School of the Artistic Gesture, ECA) explore the risks and possibilities of a distant encounter through various media. The following transcultural dialogue encompasses exchanges of sound recordings, performances, installations, shared video-diaries, and translations between different forms of narration.

This exhibition explores the topic of dialogue and occurs contemporaneously in Almaty and Zurich. The project presents works that were developed as part of QWAS: Migrating Dialogue seminar during the fall semester of 2017 and throughout the exchange between the two cities in September of the same year.
