Akzel Beiseimbay's exhibition

NOVEMBER 16 - NOVEMBER 30, 2023
Eurasian Cultural Alliance presents an exhibition by the artist Aksel Beisembay 'Biz Bar Edik', which took place at the EGIN Cultural Center in Almaty, located at Nurmakov 79.

In September, as part of the public art program of the festival, she presented memorial sculptures of nature spirits, which were placed on the branches of a dry tree near the Lermontov Theater. The work symbolized the memory of the altered and affected flora and fauna during colonization and also spoke about the impact of empires on the environment. Later, the tree was cut down, and the sculptures were taken by the city's residents. The artist reflected on this situation for her solo exhibition.

"Through this work, I wanted to depict a simple metaphor of a tree without roots. It is difficult for a person to exist without a stable foundation. The foundation can be understood as both one's personal history and the history of the region, family, nation, or the entire planet. Knowing and accepting the entire history can protect you from information manipulation and deception. It is very relevant in our time, in my opinion. We cannot undo certain historical events, so all we have left is to remember them and try not to repeat the mistakes of bygone years."
