In modern urbanism, the first assessment of a city is generally based on the availability and condition of its public spaces. These are connected with the criteria of friendliness of a city's environment towards its citizens – the comfort and the willingness of people to spend their free time in the city.
For that particular reason, a lot of attention has been paid to the creation of public spaces on the territory of EXPO 2017 in Astana. The leading public architects and engineers in collaboration with Kazakhstani specialists have designed four public spaces titled Creative Energy Spaces, based on Energy of the Future, the theme of EXPO 2017.
The general design principle of the installations is waviness. The approach to working with the geometry of the installations creates a sense of movement, thus, demonstrating the motion of matter, which is the phenomenon that produces Energy. This principle makes it possible to flexibly and variously work with the plastic effect of each individual installation, while maintaining the visual and conceptual integrity of all four installations.
